In the game of craps, a gambler has a large range of bets that can be made. These bets can seem pretty complicated to a beginner in craps; however, it’s very easy to learn once you start playing craps. As with any other table game found within the casino, there are bets that have better outcomes than others have and higher edges over the house than others. If you are a beginner at the craps table, it is probably best to stick with pass line bets over other bets until you have learned more about the game and the different types of bets.
Pass Line Bet
The pass line bet is a popular craps bet that is used often. Frankly, it is more popular than others because the house does not have a large edge over the player. The house edge is only 1.41%. This bet is simply placed on the pass line when the dice are rolled and the roll is a “come out”. If you aren’t sure how to tell if it is a come out roll then you can simply look on the table and if there is a black laminated market that says off on the table, then it is a come out roll.
You will lose your bet if the come out roll is a two, three, or twelve; however, if the roll turns out a seven or an eleven, then even money is own. If another total is rolled apart from the two, three, seven, eleven, or twelve, then it is known as a point. The black laminated marker will be turned to on from off by the dealer and it will be placed on the table space that coincides with the rolled number. The dice will then be rolled again until the point number is rolled or a seven is rolled. You get even money if the point number is rolled again, but if a seven is rolled then your wager is lost.
Don’t Pass Bet
The don’t pass bet is pretty much the same as the above mentioned pass line bet apart from the fact that everything is inverted. You win if the come out roll adds up to two or three and you lose if it’s a seven or eleven. If a twelve is rolled then it is called a push and you win if a seven is the first to be rolled. However, you lose if the point is rolled first. The house edge on the don’t pass bet sits at about 1.36%, including ties.
Laying Odds Bet
A third common bet at the craps table is known as the laying odds bet. Once the point number has been rolled successfully, you, as the player, can bet multiples of your current pass line bet. Normally, this is limited to three to five times. The odds bet simply is put behind the pass line bet on the side that is closest to you and on the outer side of the pass line region.
Different odds are paid out based on the point number. For example, if the point number is a six or an eight then the pays will pay about 6 to 5. If the point number is a five or a nine, then the odds will pay about 3 to 2. If the point number is a four or a ten then the odds will pay about 2 to 1.
