The latest Mega Millions lottery that took place this past Tuesday, January 4, 2011, had a strange connection to the lottery numbers that haunted one of the actors on the former television show Lost. In fact, anyone who picked those same numbers for their lottery ticket Tuesday night – 4, 8, 15, 16, 23 and 42 – were able to secure $150 in winnings by matching four of the six lottery numbers, including the mega ball, which was 42. More than 9,000 people were able to claim this amount.
The actual winning lottery numbers were 4, 8, 15, 25, 47 and 42, with the last number being the Mega Ball number. The lottery was at a whopping $355 million, after 15 consecutive draws, which began in the middle of November, and no wins.
There were two winners of the large Mega Millions amount, with both winning tickets being sold just a short 125 miles apart from each other, in two different states – Washington and Idaho – and worth $190 million each. Only one has come forward to claim his winnings while the other has yet to take action (and just what is this person thinking?!).
The Washington winner came forward as the lottery winner and details were announced earlier today. The retired man purchased the ticket on a Sunday afternoon at a Safeway store located in a small town, Ephrata, just east of Seattle by 170 miles. The Safeway store where he purchased the winning lottery ticket will receive $50,000.
The man was scheduled to bring his family with him to collect his winnings sometime today in Olympia. His identity will later be revealed at a press conference.
67 players were able to claim $250,000 for matching the five numbers minus the Mega Ball of 42 and 323 individuals were able to score $10,000 for matching four of the numbers. Nearly 3 million tickets won $2, which is the cost of a Mega Millions lottery ticket with the Megaplier.
Congrats to the winners – wish it could have been me!
