Four employees of Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas where arrested in August and charged with conspiracy, forgery and theft.

Apparently, the four employees were involved in a high hand jackpot scheme. High hands are an added bonus for poker players and are awarded for a royal flush. Each casino can set their own rules for high hand bonuses and in the case of the four workers; no one was actually hitting high hands. The paperwork was filled out to say they had when it never happened. The four employees then took the money that would have been awarded to the player with the high hand. They split that money among themselves. The total only came to about $2,000 but this is still a serious violation in the eyes of the casino.

Gaming Board officials were notified by another employee who felt something was abnormally wrong in the card room. If it weren’t for this employee the four would have probably been able to amass a larger amount of theft.

The four employees have been charged with felony crimes including theft, forgery, and conspiracy to commit theft. During the investigation security started watching surveillance footage to identify the three winning players indicated on the payouts. They were unable to find the winners and the employees were arrested.

This only adds to the problems Plant Hollywood has been experiencing the last few months. Recently, Prive, a nightclub in the facility, was shut down for illegal activities that were taking place in and outside of the club. The liquor license was revoked. It has since reopened under a temporary license but had to pay $500,000 for improper oversight of the lounge and nightclub.

Planet Hollywood was formerly the Aladdin Casino on the Las Vegas Strip and is owned by Obiz. The property itself has a long history in Las Vegas originally opening in 1963 as the Tally-Ho. In 1964 it was called the King’s Crown and didn’t do too well when it couldn’t obtain a gaming licenses and was bought in 1966 and renovated for $3 million and turned into an Arabian nights theme. It opened as the Aladdin in 1966 with the Bagdad Theater. The Aladdin was the site of Elvis Prestley’s wedding to Priscilla. The building was torn down and another Aladdin was scheduled to open in 2000 but because of problems with the surveillance system it didn’t open until the next day. It was sold again in 2003 to Planet Hollywood and Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. It opened in 2007 as Planet Hollywood Casino and Resort.

Currently, Planet Hollywood is hosting the 10 week America’s Got Talent in its CHI showroom. This showroom has a 1,300 seat capacity and the show will run each Wednesday.

It just goes to show that you can’t get away with theft at a casino. Surveillance systems are supreme there and these employees would have eventually been caught even if another staff member wouldn’t have thought something funny was going on.
